Coach Michael Busch

The most overplayed analogy in the Maryland media this legislative session struck again today in the Washington Post. Today’s Post features a profile piece on House Speaker Michael Busch, which compares him to a tactful football coach.

“Like a football coach with a knack for trick plays, Busch has produced a series of wins for House Democrats using some outlandish parliamentary maneuvers,” the story says.

I guess the comparison is just too good for reporters to pass up. After all, according to his official bio, Busch was the Annapolis Touchdown Club’s Coach of the Year in 1978.
