Senate Passes Security Breach Bill

The Maryland Senate passed SB 134 last week by a vote of 46-0. The Chamber originally raised concerns that the bill went to far. Thankfully, however, the Senate Finance Committee acted on feedback from the business community and amended the legislation to produce a bill that enhances the protection of consumer information, without overreaching or subjecting businesses to needless lawsuits.

The House Economic Matters Committee is considering similar legislation. The Maryland Chamber will work to ensure they follow the Senate’s lead and amend the legislation to address the concerns of the business community.
