Senate Overrides HB 1215

The Governor’s veto of HB 1215 has been overridden. The House voted 97-42 on Saturday, the Senate 30-17 today.

HB 1215 blocks for one year the action taken by the State Board of Education to require significant governing and management changes for seven middle schools and four high schools in Baltimore City that have chronically failed to make adequate yearly progress towards ensuring that all students meet academic standards.

The Chamber opposed this legislation because the quality of, and access to, high quality primary, secondary and higher education is a vital concern for Maryland’s business community due to its impact on job retention and creation.
