MD Senators Introduce Transit Funding Bill

Maryland Senators Barbara A. Mikulski and Benjamin L. Cardin introduced legislation to provide the Washington-area Metrorail system with $1.5 billion in funding over a 10-year period, if Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia can match that commitment.

We’ll be talking more about this in the near future. As the Governor and lawmakers in Annapolis begin to address the Maryland’s structural budget deficit, they will also have to deal with the fact that the state’s Transportation Trust Fund is also significantly underfunded.

More money will be needed to address the state’s transportation and transit needs. We’ll keep you up to date when the debate begins and we have a clearer understanding of the tax proposals that will be under consideration.
