Delegate Norm Conway on the Budget Deficit

Today’s Daily Times features an interview with House Appropriations Committee Chairman Del. Norm Conway (D-Dist. 37B). The article focuses on the state’s budget deficit, potential tax increases, slots, and budget cuts.

As the head of the Appropriations Committee, he’s no stranger to people asking him for money.

“The 20-year delegate usually eyes a chart in the corner of his office. If there is one item he could keep on him at all times, it would be this posterboard-sized line graph illustrating the state’s $1.4 billion deficit projected for 2009. He’s joked about having T-shirts made with the chart wrapping around the chest. Every time somebody asks for money, he just points to the illustration.”
