Higher Education Funding Commission Wants 2008 Action

The Commission to Develop the Maryland Model for Funding Higher Education will likely push for legislation next session to phase-in increased funding for higher education institutions. At its August 27th meeting, Commission members acknowledged that they will need to extend some of their work to next year. However, many members noted that far reaching budget decisions to resolve the state’s deficit would be locked in later this fall or in the 2008 legislative session. Therefore, they pressed the Commission to come forward with recommendations in an interim report later this year. Look for the Commission to kick their activities into high gear the next few months to meet their new deadline. The next meeting of the group will be Monday, September 24th at 10:00 a.m. Contact Ron Wineholt for further information at rwineholt@mdchamber.org.
