Chamber Urges Governor O'Malley to Veto the Flexible Leave Act

Maryland Chamber President & CEO Kathy Snyder sent a letter to Governor Martin O’Malley yesterday urging him to veto HB 40, the Flexible Leave Act.

The General Assembly passed the bill, which will require employers of 15 or more employees, who provide paid leave, to allow their employees to use their leave (sick, vacation or compensatory time) for the illness of a child, spouse or parent. Employees who earn more than one type of leave with pay may elect the type and amount of leave with pay to be used.

The Maryland Chamber opposes this bill because it is an unnecessary government intrusion into the employer-employee relationship that undermines employment policies.
