- One Size Fits All Shift Breaks Bill Defeated
The House Economic Matters Committee voted yesterday to defeat legislation to impose a one-size-fits all shift break mandate on employers with more than 50 employees. - Letter to the Editor on False Claims Bill
The Maryland Chamber thanks the State Senate for defeating the false claims bill. This legislation, SB 272, would have exposed hospitals, doctors and other health care providers to more lawsuits for billing issues with the State. - House Passes Employee Misclassification Bill
The House of Delegates passed on Monday the Workplace Fraud Act of 2009. The Maryland Chamber condemns any business intentionally misclassifying an employee as an independent contractor, but we have several concerns relating to the unintended consequences of the this legislation. - Small Group Reform Passes Both Houses
Both houses of the Maryland General Assembly have unanimously passed legislation to introduce market-based reforms into the Small Group Health Insurance Plan. - April 22: Employee Free Choice Act Webinar
The Maryland Chamber of Commerce is pleased to partner with Shawe Rosenthal, LLP to present a webinar on the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) on Wednesday, April 22, at 10 a.m. - Last Minute Bill Attempts to Tax Remote Sales
SB 1071 would attempt to require out of state vendors to collect Maryland sales taxes if they run Internet ads on websites of Maryland businesses that result in $10,000 in annual sales. - Two Environmental Bills on the Move
Two environmental bills, the environmental standing legislation and the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Act of 2009, are moving through the Maryland General Assembly this week.
