Help Build the Maryland Green Registry

Maryland businesses of all sizes are launching unique and innovative programs to make their workplaces and facilities more sustainable. Thanks to the Maryland Green Registry, we now have a place to share these ideas and best practices.
The Maryland Chamber encourages you to take a minute to learn more about the Maryland Green Registry. Whether you are looking for a place to promote your current activities or searching for ideas to help you get started, the registry is a great resource for you company.
The registry is a voluntary, self-certification program offering tips and resources to help organizations set and meet their goals on the path to sustainability. There is no cost and is open to organizations of all sizes. Participants share the details on at least five environmental best practices that they are putting in place.
“Maryland businesses and other organizations already know that even relatively simple steps to reduce our impact on the environment save money and create a healthier workplace,” Governor Martin O’Malley said. “The Maryland Green Registry provides an opportunity for these organizations to share their stories and inspire others to take steps to protect our air, land, and water, including the Chesapeake Bay. We’re fortunate to have nearly 80 organizations in our State who have agreed to come forward and participate - including this Coca-Cola bottling facility - and we hope to have hundreds more organizations join us.”
The Maryland Chamber recently participated in an event with Governor O’Malley at Coca Cola’s Baltimore Production facility to draw attention to the registry. Organizations of all types ad sizes are sharing ideas through the registry. From large companies like Lockheed Martin to small businesses like Substance151, the Registry is a great place to find and share innovative green business ideas.
On the Maryland Green Registry’s website, you can view a list of participating organizations and download PDF files detailing each participants green business initiatives. In addition, you can access checklists for best practices in the areas of environmental management and leadership, waste reduction, energy and water conservation, transportation, and green building design. The checklists offer examples of activities to be included in the organization’s profile, as well as inspiration and ideas for future efforts.
“I am pleased to join the Governor and his staff in encouraging all employers, no matter what kind or size, to help improve out environment and promote more eco-friendly ways of doing businesses,” said Maryland Chamber Chairman Joe Slater, President of Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative. “It’s the right thing to do and a task we must all achieve.”
